TONBRIDGE CASTLE
A view from the air showing the grounds and some of the adjacent High
Street. |
Barden Lake, Tonbridge.
A walk from Tonbridge High Street, or even better, via a very pleasant
walk through the public park, Barden, (Bar-den as it is pronounced locally), can be
reached. The area is criss-crossed with walkways through this nature conservation
area, many easily accessible by wheelchairs. This is a popular haunt of walkers,
fishermen and locals just wanting to stretch their legs or to spend some time away from
the maddening crowds. |

River Walk, Tonbridge.
A view of the castle from the main river's eastern tow-path. By
turning round with one's back to the castle, a short walk passing riverside picnicking
areas will bring the walker to Town Lock which is in daily use for the river traffic
running along the Medway. Onwards, a pleasant 15 mile river-side walk, passing
though the Yalding and Wateringbury areas, takes one into the County Town of Maidstone.

Church Lane Tonbridge.
A quiet alleyway, really, with good examples of Kent weatherboarding.
This leads to Tonbridge Parish Church. |
