Barden Lake, Tonbridge.

A walk from Tonbridge High Street, or even better, via a very pleasant walk through the public park, Barden, (Bar-den as it is pronounced locally), can be reached.  The area is criss-crossed with walkways through this nature conservation area, many easily accessible by wheelchairs.  This is a popular haunt of walkers, fishermen and locals just wanting to stretch their legs or to spend some time away from the maddening crowds.

River Walk, Tonbridge.

A view of the castle from the main river's eastern tow-path.  By turning round with one's back to the castle, a short walk passing riverside picnicking areas will bring the walker to Town Lock which is in daily use for the river traffic running along the Medway.  Onwards, a pleasant 15 mile river-side walk, passing though the Yalding and Wateringbury areas, takes one into the County Town of Maidstone.

Standing on the Big Bridge with the castle walls to the right we look along the River Medway.

Church Lane Tonbridge.

A quiet alleyway, really, with good examples of Kent weatherboarding.

This leads to Tonbridge Parish Church.
